Brooklyn Italians to hold them on Feb. 23-24
The Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club will hold an open tryout at John Dewey High School on Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24.
Brooklyn Italians were 8-1-3 in the 2012 National Premier Soccer League season losing to national champions FC Sonic in the Northeast playoffs. In the Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup, the Italians lst to the Rochester Rhinos in the second round.
Brooklyn Italians head coach Lucio Russo, assistant coaches and team management will attend to evaluate all participating players.
Players who demonstrate the ability to play at the National Premier Soccer League level will be invited to join the Brooklyn Italians pre-season camp. Space will be limited to 50 trialists.
“The open tryouts are an important part of our season because it gives an opportunity for players who may go unseen to prove their skills,” Russo said. “We’ve found some talented players at our tryouts and given them the chance to come to our camp. It’s a great opportunity to be a part of the success of the Brooklyn Italians organization."
John Dewey H.S. is located at 2496 Stillwell Avenue in Brooklyn.
Check-in time for Saturday is 10 a.m. and the tryouts will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will last approximately three hours. Sunday check-in times will be given at the end of Saturday's session.
Registration deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 20.
The registration fee is $40.
Last season’s tryouts were very fruitful for the team, as Henry Lino, Karim Russell, Cherif Moktefi, Paul Nickerson, Yannick Diese and Cristian Uy made the team’s roster.
"Anyone that knows coach Lucio Russo, knows he's got a chance," captain Hemir Niebles said. "It doesn't matter how old you are, where your from, as long as you can play, work hard and respect the game he will give you a chance."
