LI Fury douse the Inferno, 1-0

Playing its third Women's Premier Soccer League game in five days, the the Long Island Fury travelled to Pennsylvania Dutch Country and blanked the Penn Legacy Inferno, 1-0, on Wednesday night.

The Fury improved to 2-2-2 while Penn fell to 3-3-2.

Shannon Horgan was the offensive star as she scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute off an assist from Amanda Rooney. The play originated on the right side of the field as Rooney played a beautiful through-ball that Horgan ran on to and scored.

Fury goalkeeper Alicia Ramos got the shutout with 10 saves.

“We had the better of play and kept possession of the ball,” Fury coach Michael Demakis said. “We sustained possession in the offensive third tonight, unlike last night against the New York Fury. We did a much better job of holding on to the ball and could have easily scored more goals.

“We were finding each other better, the defense was solid as they did their job in the back tonight."

The Fury get a break for the Fourth of July before hosting the Millburn Magic (1-2-3) at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Friday, July 8 at 8:45 p.m.
