LI Fury can't hold early lead fall 3-1

HEMPSTEAD, NY---The Long Island Fury let an early lead slip away and fell to Aztec MA 3-1 in a Women’s Premier Soccer League game at Hofstra University on Thursday.

Carly Beyar gave the Fury a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, scoring on a breakaway, but the Aztecs retaliated on the next play, with Greta Samuelsdottir netting the equalizer.

Tori McCombs put Aztec ahead 2-1in the 29th minute and Dana Bergstrom put the game out of reach in the 82nd minute on a free kick.

“Rachel Blum and Katie Greer had solid performances for the Fury during the match, but overall fitness was a major factor,” said Long Island Fury coach Phil Casella. “Boston is very fast and explosive, and do a great job in transition.“

The Fury, who fall to 2-2-2, play next against the New England Mutiny on Saturday in Massachusetts.
