TOP HONORS
Magic's Sherman W-League rookie of the year, Riders' Weber top defender
Two local women earned the highest W-League honors that are given out in their respective categories this season.
New York Magic forward Rashidah Sherman was named rookie of the year and the Long Island Rough Riders' Sue Weber was selected as defender of the year.
The awards were presented at a banquet at the W-League championship in Santa Clarita, Calif. on Friday.
Voting was conducted by W-League coaches and general managers.
Sherman, who made the Magic a dangerous team to face every night, finished second to league MVP Kelly Parker of the Buffalo Flash in goals and points and was also an MVP finalist.
A repeat winner, Weber anchored the Long Island defense and added a goal and two assists. An experienced defender, Weber also captured the honor in 2008. A former U.S. U-17 National Team member, Weber was a two-time NCAA Division I All-American at Hofstra University.
