Lampard doesn't play for ManCity vs Newcastle

Not only will Frank Lampard have to earn a spot on the Manchester City Starting XI, he will have to secure a spot on the 18-man game-day roster as well.

New York City FC's designated player was not named to City's traveling squad for its English Premier League season opener at Newcastle United Sunday.

City recorded a 2-1 victory in the match.

MC manager Manuel Pellegrini has indicated that he expects Lampard to get himself into full match fitness.

Lampard, who recently ended a 13-year career with Chelsea, is on loan to City through January. Then he will join NYC FC for its pre-season training camp as it begins to prepare for its expansion season in the 2015 Major League Soccer season.
