August 30, 2010 THANKS, BUT NO THANKS
Lindpere declines Estonia invitation; Bulls lose Marquez, Richards, Coundoul, Miller
Four Red Bulls were recalled by their respective National Teams for friendlies this weekend, but perhaps the most interesting news was by someone who declined to play for his national side. Midfielder Joel Lindpere was called up by Estonia for an international friendly this weekend, but he turned down the invitation.
August 28, 2010 HE'S DANE-GEROUS
Richards continues his stellar play, finally scores his first MLS goal of season
Like it or not, but Dane Richards had forged a reputation this season as a player who scored goals in what were essentially meaningless matches. He found the back of the net in the Red Bulls' pre-season win over Santos and in the Barclays New York Challenge against Manchester City. Meaningless -- until Saturday night.
August 28, 2010 HE'S NOT CONVINCED
Backe says Red Bulls are not good enough to win MLS Cup, at least not yet
Even though his team has won two consecutive games while playing its best soccer of the season, Red Bulls coach Hans Backe is not convinced his side can win MLS Cup. At least not yet.
August 28, 2010 HE'S OK
It's only cramps for Henry
Before any one gets worried or starts spreading some bad news on the internet, Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry says he is OK. He left the Red Bulls' 2-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes with a cramped calf muscle in the 88th minute on Saturday night.
August 28, 2010 VIRTUOSO PERFORMANCE
Red Bulls put on a show at Red Bull Arena, blank Earthquakes, 2-0
The Red Bulls finally put together two superb halves on Saturday night. The final score of 2-0 over the San Jose Earthquakes might not do the Red Bulls justice on how well they really played as they entertained a crowd of 21,859 at Red Bull Arena. As it turned out, two players connected for their first goal of the season as Dane Richards and Thierry Henry found the back of the net. Richards assisted on Henry's score.
August 28, 2010 RICHARDS' FIRST
Midfielder lifts Bulls into 1-0 lead
It took Dane Richards 19 games to score a goal in a game that counted for the Red Bulls Saturday. But the wait was certainly worth it. The Jamaican international midfielder struck a minute into first-half stoppage time to lift the Red Bulls to a 1-0 halftime lead over the San Jose Earthquakes at Red Bull Arena.
August 28, 2010 NO SURPRISES
Red Bulls put 'regular' lineup
There were no surprises in the Red Bulls' lineup for their MLS match against the San Jose Earthquakes at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.
August 27, 2010 NO REPS, NO PROBLEM
Red Bulls go without union reps
With the subtraction of John Wolyniec and Kevin Goldthwaite from the Red Bulls, the MLS does not have a player representative these days.
August 27, 2010 HENRY ON RICHARDS
'If he does the right movement at the right time, how can you defend him?'
During his four-year tenure with the Red Bulls, we've seen moments of brilliance from midfielder Dane Richards. He bolts down the right wing past his marker, as though his man is standing still. The Jamaican flash then goes for the goal and scores or puts a perfect cross right into the penalty area for Juan Pablo Angel. The problem is that we haven't seen though moments and plays enough
August 27, 2010 FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
Richards recounts his 1st international goal
It has been quite an unusual season for Dane Richards. He has found the back of the net against highly rated Manchester City in a friendly and struck for his international goal in a victory over Trinidad & Tobago.
August 27, 2010 CALLED UP
Richards, Miller for September friendlies
The Red Bulls will be without two starters for their Sept. 4 encounter against MLS Cup defending champions Real Salt Lake. Red Bulls midfielder Dane Richards said Thursday that he had been called into the Jamaica National Team for a pair of friendlies in September. Left fullback Roy Miller was recalled by Costa Rica for its Sept. 5 match against Jamaica.
August 27, 2010 2022 WORLD CUP FAVORITES
English bookmaker likes U.S. chances
William Hill bookmakers in England have made the United States 9-4 favorites to be named hosts of the 2022 World Cup. The English bookmakers made the Americans favorites, assuming that FIFA awards the 2018 World Cup to England.
August 26, 2010 NO DECISIONS
On Red Bulls trialists in camp
Red Bulls coach Hans Backe won't make any decisions on two trialists who have been working out with the MLS club.
August 26, 2010 NO GOALS? NO PROBLEM
Backe, Henry are not concerned the Frenchman hasn't scored in five games
If Thierry Henry doesn't score a goal this year for the Red Bulls, it won't be any skin off Hans Backe's, well, back. While the former French international has struggled to find the back of the net in his first five games with the MLS club, the team's coach isn't worried about his star forward. It's because of what Henry brings to the team.
August 26, 2010 STAYING FOCUSED
Backe more concerned on securing 2nd place than catching 1st-place Crew
At this juncture of the season, Red Bulls coach Hans Backe is more focused on securing second place in the Eastern Conference than catching the first-place Columbus Crew.
