El Salvadoran left fullback Alfredo Pacheco officially became a Red Bull on Friday, but his signing has caused the team to demote two other players who performed well in last Saturday's scoreless tie in Houston.
Goalkeeper Alec Dufty acknowledged Wednesday that he had been waived by the MLS club. The Red Bulls announced that on Friday.
On Friday it was learned that Danleigh Borman, a midfielder who played so well as an emergency player at left back was moved from the senior to developmental roster.
“One of our main priorities in the offseason was to build depth in our defense and we believe that Alfredo provides that,” sporting director Jeff Agoos said in a statement. “Alfredo has gained a significant amount of experience both on the club and international level and we look forward to his contribution in 2009.”
The 26-year-old Pacheco played for El Salvadorian First Division club, C.D. FAS, since 2000. After playing on the reserve team in his first season, he made 217 first-team appearances for his club, scoring 32 goals. Pacheco was the team’s captain since 2005.
The Santa Ana, El Salvador native competed on several youth international levels and has been a fixture on the National Team. Pacheco was involved in El Salvador’s 2006 World Cup Qualifying campaign and is participating in his country’s current run to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.
