The timing could not have been any better for Red Bulls defender Kevin Goldthwaite.
He underwent successful surgery in Munich, Germany, Friday to repair a sports hernia, the MLS club announced on Friday.
Goldthwaite is expected to miss from two-three weeks, including Sunday's home game against the Columbus Crew at Giants Stadium at 6 p.m. He was going to be sidelined on Sunday regardless due to a straight red card he incurred in the 3-2 victory over FC Dallas last Sunday.
And, the Red Bulls have off the weekend of Sept. 5. So, probably the most Goldy will miss is one game.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck, who used the Minimal Repair Technique – a procedure Muschaweck developed and exclusively performs.
The 26-year-old Goldthwaite, 26, was acquired from Toronto FC in the middle of the 2007 season and has started in 17 games for the Red Bulls this year. He was the team’s 2008 defender of the year after playing in a career-high 28 games and recording two goals and two assists.
