October 12, 2009 ONE-GAME CONTRACT Red Bulls sign GK Patterson-Sewell
The Red Bulls Monday signed goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell to a one-game contract after receiving league approval for a case of extreme hardship.
Patterson-Sewell will be available for the Red Bulls game at Real Salt Lake (Fox Soccer Channel, 10 p.m).
The team added Patterson-Sewell because goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul is with the Senegal National Team for an international friendly against South Korea Wednesday.
Petterson-Sewell has been practicing with the team since Friday.
Danny Cepero is expected to start for the Red Bulls.
Coundoul will return to the MLS team for its season finale against Toronto FC Oct. 24.
Patterson-Sewell was with the Red Bulls last season, but did not see any first team action.
He played with the Carolina RailHawks in the United Soccer League First Division. He recorded a 0.533 goals-against average, registering 10 shutouts in 15 appearances.
