Red Bulls midfielder Jorge Rojas has undergone surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, the MLS team announced Wednesday.
Rojas is expected to be out for 3-4 months. The operation was called successful by the Red Bulls.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Riley Williams at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
Rojas, a Venezuelan international, sustained the injury during the team’s 1-1 home draw with the New England Revolution Sept. 18.
Rojas, who was counted on to be the team's playmaker, experienced a disappointing year in his first full season with the Red Bulls. He recorded only two goals and two assists in 21 matches and in the 19 he started. Rojas scored both goals in the first half of the 4-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes May 8.
He joined the team on July 17, 2008. Although the Red Bulls reached the MLS Cup in 2008, Rojas was not a factor in the team's run to the championship game.
