Coundoul, Kandji undergo operations

Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul and forward Macoumba Kandji underwent successful surgeries this week, the MLS club announced Thursday.

Both players are expected to be ready for the MLS pre-season, which traditionally begins in late January.

Coundoul had a procedure performed on his left knee by Dr. Riley Williams at the Hospital for Special Surgery Tuesday to remove a cyst and repair a small tear in his patella tendon.

His recovery time is expected to be from six to eight weeks.

Kandji underwent surgery Wednesday to repair his right adductor and a hernia. The procedure was performed by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia.

Kandji's recovery time is expected to be from four to six weeks weeks.

Coundoul made eight starts, earning a 1.25 goals-against average and two shutouts after he was acquired from the Colorado Rapids earlier this year.

Kandji scored two goals and added four assists in 23 games in his first full season with the Red Bulls. He was honored as the MLS player of thewWeek award for Week 8.
