MONTCLAIR, N.J.. -- Now, before you get any thoughts, no, Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash is not switching sporting careers from basketball to soccer after training with the Red Bulls on Tuesday.

Still, he enjoyed his stint with the MLS club at Montclair State University.
“Well, hopefully I didn’t embarrass myself," he said. "It was fun the guys were great. Everyone was really welcoming and made me feel like part of the team. It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun.”
Nash, 36, practiced with the team several years ago. Asked to compare his experiences, he replied, "I think the team right now looks great. They have a great team spirit. They are very organized and have a belief, so I think it’s an exciting time to be a part of the team and this organization. Obviously, with Thierry [Henry] coming now and the possibility of another signing soon, it’s an exciting time to be a Red Bull fan.”
As for training with the Red Bulls, well, maybe next year.
“My summer in New York is coming to an end so this is my sending off party," Nash said. "I feel lucky they let me come out. I had a great time.”
The 6-3 Nash is friends with Henry, who will make his Red Bulls debut against Tottenham in the New York Football Challenge on Thursday night.
“This is a special week for soccer in this area," he said. "Not only is it Thierry’s first game with the team as well as the team fighting to get to the top in the Eastern Conference. Then you bring in Sporting [Lisobon], [Manchester] City and Spurs. It’s a phenomenal time to be a soccer fan in this area. Hopefully we can convert some more people in this area into Red Bull fans.”
On the possibility of coming to more training sessions:
