BULLISH ON THE BULLS
Ramos likes what he has seen
By Michael Lewis
Tab Ramos makes no doubt about it.
"I think the Red Bulls are a great team," he said. "I liked their team last year. They had as good a chance as anybody to win it and this year I think it's the same."
In a Friday interview that took place prior to the Red Bulls' 3-2 home loss to Chivas USA on Sunday, the former MetroStars and U.S. National Team star spoke enthusiastically about the MLS club and newcomer Luke Rodgers.
"I think it's been great," he said. "Luke Rodgers coming in, making such an impact, I think it's something that you always hope that you can get. The impact he's made on the team from the first minute, giving them that relentless work ethic, it's been great for the team.
"Any time you can have Juan Agudelo coming off the bench, someone who is now starting to be successful with the senior National Team, I think Red Bull has an excellent roster."
But Ramos certainly has seen some room for improvement.
"It's going to take a little [time] for Tim Ream to get used to playing next to [Rafa] Marquez in the back," he said. "The first few games you can tell that they were not used to it so much."
Ramos, an attacking midfielder in his heyday, also is a big fan of the team's possession game and more.
"You know what? I really do," he said. "Not only that, I really like the fact their outside backs go forward. I like the free type style they play. Sometimes I go back to the team we had in 2000 with the MetroStars, which I thought was a very good team because we from to the back to the front we had some good players who wanted to go forward. We were aggressive in terms of that. Since then, this year's team, I would say is the best ever. I really liked last year's, too."
