TORONTO -- Had the Red Bulls' first team suffered the same fate as their reserve side on Saturday, they would have been in big trouble.

The reserves dropped a 3-1 decision to Toronto FC in a Major League Soccer Reserve League match on Saturday. Later in the day, the Red Bulls salvaged a 1-1 draw with Toronto's first team.

Forward Keith Makubuya lifted the hosts toa 1-0 lead in the sixth minute before Toronto FC Academy player Stefan Vukovic beat Red Bulls goalkeeper Alex Horwath four minutes later.

Vukovic struck again in the 32nd minute for a three-goal advantage.

The Red Bulls' Matt Kassel and Brian Nielsen were cautioned in the opening half, a fate also suffered by Toronto's Makubuya.

New York regained some strength over half-time and opened the second half with a goal from the right side scored by forward Semso Nikocevic, a guest player, in the 47th minute.

It looked as though the Red Bulls were ready to play and pushed up the field with more pressure on the hosts. But the wet conditions, high winds and possession play by Toronto was tiring for the visitors.

Toronto played possession with tight, short and crisp passes in the second half.
