MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- Red Bulls coach Hans Backe on Tuesday said that the club will pick up the option on midfielder Joel Lindpere, who was named a MLS all-star this season.

In addition, goalkeeper Frank Rost, signed in August and automatically handed the starting goalkeeper duties by Backe, likely wont be back.

I think Frank will go back, Im quite sure," Backe told reporters at Montclair State University. "I hope I dont say too much but Im quite sure he likes to go back to Germany. I havent talked to him yet."

With Rost not returning, and possibly Marquez being Mexico-bound, there is at least one designated player spot open on the team, if not two. Backe has definite thoughts on how to utilize those slots.

I think normally you dont go for a DP as a center back for example, Backe said. It has to be central midfield or a striker.
