Sources confirmed to BigAppleSoccer.com on Monday that Red Bulls midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy has been traded to the San Jose Earthquakes. The deal has not yet been announced by either club.

Traded from Colorado to New York in 2010, Ballouchy was a versatile player who was used by coach Hans Backe as a central midfielder, a winger and a withdrawn forward.

He made 16 appearances this year, including 10 starts with one goal and two assists and seemed to be settling into a more prominent role with the team.

Ballouchy most recently started and went the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 New York win on July 18, where he controlled the midfield well for the Red Bulls. Since that appearance, he played only three minutes off the bench in the win over Philadelphia.

Ballouchy did not travel to Montreal this past weekend due to his immigration status.

One of the most visible Red Bull players in the community, Ballouchy was very active in supporting and giving his time to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which treats young cancer patients.

Terms of the deal are not yet learned.
