Red Bulls captain to miss KC match due to birth of his son

The Red Bulls will try to wrestle the Eastern Conference lead from Sporting Kansas City on Sunday without team captain and striker Thierry Henry.

The Red Bulls announced on Friday that the former French international due to the birth of his son.

New York (13-7-5, 44 points) trails Kansas City (14-7-4, 46) by two points in the conference race. the game, which will be televised by ESPN2 at 9 p.m. ET, will be the first of three encounters between the team. The two teams also will tussle twice at Red Bull Arena -- on Sept. 19 and Oct. 20.

Henry is second on the team with 11 goals, trailing only Kenny Cooper (14). He also has a team-high seven assists.
