Palsson to play with NEC Nijmegen
It's official.
The Red Bulls on Wednesday announced that midfielder Victor Palsson has been loaned to Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen. for the rest o 2012-13 Eredivisie season. The season ends in May.
“We believe that this is an excellent opportunity for Victor to earn playing time in a good league,” Red Bulls general manager and sporting director Erik Soler said in a stateent. “Victor is still a very young player with a lot of potential and we look forward to tracking his progress in the Netherlands, with the option of bringing him back to New York next year.”
Palsson was in his first season with the Red Bulls. The 21-year-old Reykjavik, Iceland native has appeared in 16 games, starting four times and logging 463 minutes.
He joined the Red Bulls after spending the 2011 season with Scottish Premier League side Hibernian, appearing in 31 matches. In 2010, Palsson signed with Liverpool, but did not appear for the first team in the English Premier League. During the 2010-11 season, he was loaned to then-English League One club Dagenham and Redbridge.
Palsson has appeared for Iceland’s Under-19 and U-21 sides. N.E.C. sits in 10th place in the 18-team Eredivisie with a 1-2-0 record through three matches.
