Red Bulls youth training program coach Jones killed in Manhattan
Michael Jones, a part-time coach in the Red Bulls' youth training program, was murdered as he was slashed to death near Union Square in Manhattan, according to WABC (Channel 7).

The Red Bulls confirmed the death of Jones, a Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. resident. He was 25.
He is not to be confused with former Red Bulls defender Mike Jones, who played with the Major League Soccer club, but who now plays for FC Hjørring in Denmark.
The attack on Jones occurred on 14th Street near Fifth Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, WABC reported.
Jones suffered six knife wounds to the head, neck and chest, according to published reports. After he was ound on a 14th Street sidewalk between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, Jones was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The New York Post reported that a video showed Jones walking with his assailant down 14th Street. The two men pair got into an argument and the man attacked Jones..
“We are aware of this tragedy and on behalf of the entire organization, want to send our most heartfelt condolences to Michael’s family, friends and loved ones," the Red Bulls said in a statement. "He was a tremendous individual, a fantastic coach who loved soccer and a terrific friend for many of us. This is truly a sad day for our soccer community and we will do our utmost to help authorities in their investigation of this case. Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael’s family at this time.”
Jones was in his fifth season with the Red Bulls' youth training progream. He did not coach with the first team or Red Bull Academy.
