The Red Bulls are in a wait and see mode with regards to the future of winger Lloyd Sam, so says a source close to the situation.
Signed in mid-August, the English midfielder with roots in Ghana had the looks of a nice addition to the Red Bulls midfield until a knee injury ended his season late in October. It is that injury which is causing the Red Bulls to wait and consider their future with Sam.
The source, speaking to BigAppleSoccer.com on the condition of anonymity, said that the club will wait on deciding on Sam’s future until after he heals from the injury. The club has an option to extend Sam’s stay in New York.
If he can heal properly then Sam can be a nice addition to the attack based off his limited showing this year.
A speedy right sided midfielder, Sam also showed good vision and a nice touch in his five appearances with the club. Since signing in August he had two starts and registered an assist on Sept. 29 in a 4-1 rout of Toronto FC.
There is no timetable for a decision the source said.
