Are Real Salt Lake center back Jamison Olave and striker Fabian Espindola heading to the Red Bulls?

According to Soccer By Ives, they are.

The website reported on Sunday that RSL was ready to trade the two standouts to the Red Bulls for a considerable amount of allocation money, multiple sources told Soccer By Ives as the Major League Soccer trade window opened on Monay.

As it turns out, RSL has lined up several trades because it will have to realign its team due to salary cap issues.

Espindola was inconsistent in 2012, while Olave would give the Red Bulls a big-time physical presence on their backline.

The website also reported that Canadian midfielder Will Johnson could be sent to the Portland Timbers for allocation money, sources said.

If the trades are finalized, the Red Bulls will have to move either center backs Rafa Marquez, who has been a major underachiever in his 2 1/2 seasons with the club (with an anuual salary of $4.6 million), or Swede Markus Holgersson, who struggled early on in 2012, but improved throughout the season.

On the forward line, Kenny Cooper's position with the team could be in trouble because few teams have three high-profile players at striker. Sebestian Le Toux's contract runs out at the end of the year and he could be looking for a European club when the January transfer window opens.

The Red Bulls still have not named a coach to succeed Hans Backe, whose contract was not renewed after a three-year stint with the club. The name of Gary McAllister continues to pop up as the lead candidate to direct the team in the 2013 season.
