The Red Bulls made it official on Friday, announcing they had come to a deal with midfielder Victor Palsson "to mutually agree" to terminate his contract.

On Monday, Palsson admitted on twitter that his time with the club did not work out. It had been reported on Icelandic Radio last Friday that the Major League Soccer team had cut Palsson.

"First I want to thank @NewYorkRedBulls for my time there. I know it was short but unfortunately things just didn't work out," Palsson said on twitter.

"I made very good friends there and enjoyed living in NY. Met a lot of nice people. Thanks to all the players and staff!"

Palsson, a native of Iceland, has signed with NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch First Division after the Red Bulls loaned him to the Dutch First Division team.

"I'm happy w/ my contract with @NEC_Nijmegen," he tweeted. "Looking forward to the challenge. Thanks for very nice messages everyone."

The 21-year-old Palsson endured a disappointing tenure with the Red Bulls as he experienced a difficult time acclimating himself to Major League soccer.

He played in 16 games, starting four, taking in 463 minutes of action. He did not record a goal or an assist. He did earn three yellow cards and one red card. The 6-1, 170-lb. Palsson also caused 12 fouls.

Palsson has scored twice and accrued a red card during his time with NEC.
