Former Portuguese international midfielder Paulo Sousa will be the next Red Bulls head coach, according to ESPN announcer Alexi Lalas.

Lalas revealed that information on his podcast, "The Shot," on Saturday.

Former U.S. international and Red Bulls midfielder Claudio Reyna would be his assistant coach, Lalas said, citing his sources.

The 32-year-old Sousa made 51 international appearances for Portugal rom 1991-2002.

He played for several clubs, including Benfica and Sporting CP in Portugal, Juventus, Inter and Parma in Italy, Borussia Dortmund in Germany, Panathinaikos in Greece and Espanyol in Spain.

Sousa has coaching experience with Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City and Leicester City in England, Videoton FC in Hungary and the Portuguese Under-16 National Team.

The Red Bulls have been without a coach since Hans Backe learned his contract would not be extended on Nov. 9.
