Off an encouraging rookie season for the Red Bulls, Lade was called into the U.S. National Team's January training camp by coach Juergen Klinsmann on Sunday.
McCarty, off an impressive season at central midfield, was not called in. Klinsmann reportedly had said that McCarty was on his radar, but apparently the coach thought otherwise for the January camp.
Former Red Bulls strikers Juan Agudelo (Chivas USA) and Edson Buddle (LA Galaxy), midffielder Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo) and defender Jeff Parke (Philadelphia Union) also were invited to camp, which includes a 25-man roster at the National Training Center in Carson. The team will report to Carson, Cal. on Monday to train for the U.S.'s first international match of the year, a friendly against Canada at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston on an. 29.
Lade was called up by the U.S. team for the first time.
"I kind of had to pinch myself picking up that call, because [Klinsmann] is such a legend and heís done great things for the national team and he's taking them in the right direction,Ē Lade said. ďItís just very exciting and Iím really looking forward to getting in camp and hopefully showing well for myself and the club and just try to make an impact on them for the future."
The former St John's standout and Morristown, N.J. native played in 26 games (22 starts) while recording three assists as a midfielder and defender. The 23-year-old Lade also started two playoffs games. He was signed by the Red Bulls as a Home Grown Player on Dec. 5, 2011.
At St. Johnís Lade played in 81 matches. Lade was a member of the Red Bulls Academy, joining the program in Dec. 2007. If Lade earns a U.S. National Team cap, he will be the second Red Bulls Academy player to do so. Agudelo was the first, as he scored as a substitute in a 1-0 win over South Africa on Nov. 17, 2010.
