LEON — Rafa Marquez’s debut for Leon did not as what he had hoped.

The former Red Bulls defender-midfielder wound up with a draw in Leon’s 2-2 home encounter with Querétaro in the Mexican First Division as the teams opened their Clausura schedule on Saturday.

The visitors equalized on a late goal.

Marquez, who played the entire 90 minutes, told reporters that Querétaro was “very complicated and bad luck for us,” and that the opposing goalkeeper played well.

He said that he regretted “losing points at home. . . . Unfortunately, you could not win and that is what we wanted.”

Marquez, the Mexican National Team captain who spent 2 1/2 tumultuous years with the Red Bulls, left the Major League Soccer team last month and signed with Leon.
