In need of midfield help, the Red Bulls have set their sights on Spanish midfielder Ruben Bover Izquierdo.
A league source told BigAppleSoccer.com that Izquierdo will be one of the trialists that New York will look at during pre-season camp.
Izquierdo is under a one-year contract with League One club Charlton Athletic in England. The Red Bulls are eyeing a loan deal for the player should he impress during pre-season.
Izquierdo has not featured prominently with Charlton, making him perhaps an ideal loan target for a Red Bulls side that has found success in recent years with English attackers.
Both Luke Rodgers in 2011 and last yearís late signee Lloyd Sam have excelled in New York, giving a glimmer of hope for a player who has never played top-flight football.
The diminutive Inquierdo is listed as 5-6. He came up through the youth system of La Liga side Mallorca before moving to England at 17-years-old. In 2011 he did trial with now English Premier League side Queens Park Rangers before moving on to Charlton.
The Red Bulls started pre-season training in Bradenton, Fla. on Tuesday.
