Lade named to U.S.'s 23-man team, could make international debut vs. Canada

HOUSTON -- Red Bulls midfielder Connor Lade took another step toward his international debut with the United States on Monday as he was named to the Americans's 23-man roster for Tuesday night's international friendly at BBVA Compass Stadium here.

The game kicks off at 9 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN2, WatchESPN and Univision Deporte.

Lade, a Red Bulls' Homegrown signing and a former standout at St. John's University, was invited to his first U.S. National Team camp this month and obviously impressed head coach Juergen Klinsmann and his staff during training in Carson, Calif.

Former Red Bulls forward Juan Agudelo, who was traded to Chivas USA last year, also was named to the roster as were ex-Red Bulls defender Jeff Parke (Philadelphia Union) and midfielder Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo).

Having described this annual gathering as “not a preseason camp, but a preparation camp for a World Cup qualifier,” Klinsmann and his staff have had a chance to asses the depth and talent in the player pool for the last three weeks as the team prepares for a year that includes final round qualifying for the 2014 World Cup and thi summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The U.S. is coming off a 9-3-2 mark and .750 winning percentage in 2012, matching the top winning percentage of the modern era (the team also was 9-3-2 with a .750 percentage in 2008). The Americans advanced to the final found of CONCACAF qualifying and has its sights on Honduras in San Pedro Sula on Feb. 6. The USA’s first home qualifying match is against Costa Rica at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. on March 22.
