Spaniard Izquierdo signs with Red Bulls

HARRISON, N.J. – The Red Bulls announced on Friday that they signed Spanish midfielder Ruben Izquierdo.

Izquierdo, who played with Charlton Atheltic, will be added to the roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

“Ruben is a very interesting young player with a lot of potential. He is technically very good and his willingness to work and learn bodes well for his future development,” Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh said in a statement.

Izquierdo played well in the Red Bulls' 3-2 pre-season win over Malmo (Sweden) in Bradenton, Fla. on Thursday. He replaced replaced Juninho in the 36th minute and created the equalizing goal by Amando Moreno in the 86th minute. Rafhael Domingues tallied the game-winner two minutes later.

The 20-year-old Izquierdo joined the Major League Soccer team after playing for Charlton Athletic in English League One since 2011.

He went on loan to Spanish side, CD San Roque de Lepe during the 2011-12 season, scoring one goal in 10 appearances.

The 5-7, 144-lb. Izquierdo was a member of Halesowen Town from 2010-11, making 18 appearances and scoring two goals. A product of Mallorca’s academy, Izquierdo signed with Kidderminster Harriers in 2009.
