Red Bulls to broadcast games in Spanish on radio
The Red Bulls announced on Wednesday that their matches will be aired live in Spanish on ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM.
The announcement follows an agreement made between ESPN 1050 AM and M&E Productions, the company that owns the Spanish-language radio rights for Red Bulls matches.
The transmissions, which will have full 30-minute pre- and post-game shows, will be broadcast to ESPN 1050 AM listeners across the entire metropolitan area including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. ESPN 1050 AM will air the Red Bulls’ season-opener against the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
A full broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.
“We are pleased to have our matches aired on ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM,” Red Bulls general manager Jérôme de Bontin said in a statement. “ESPN 1050 AM reaches a large amount of soccer fans across the tri-state area and we are looking forward to working with them and M&E to produce the best broadcast possible for these audiences.”
Added David Roberts, ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM and ESPN Radio New York 98.7 FM: “We are very excited to be able to expand our soccer programming with complete coverage of the New York Red Bulls. The MLS team keeps growing in popularity with Hispanic sports fans in the area, and this acquisition is another step forward in our effort to continue offering content that is relevant to our audience.”
“M&E Productions is very proud to be able to broadcast the New York Red Bulls on ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York. During the 16 years of the league, we have always looked for the most genuine sports broadcaster and we are excited to finally have found it,” said Robert Sierra, senior director of communications M&E Productions.
Sierra will lead the Red Bulls coverage along with Jorge Clara. Nelson Rubio, Wilfredo Campos and Mauricio Rivas will offer additional reporting.
