NOT PART OF THE PLANS
Klinsmann doesn't look for Landon Donovan
Landon Donovan might be the biggest star in U.S. National team history, but he is not in National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann's plans. Not for the short term, and perhaps not for the long term.

“You all know what his decision was, to have a break, until the end of this month," said Klinsmann of Donovan, who stepped away from the game in December after leading the LA Galaxy to their second straight Major League Soccer Championship.
Donovan is expected to return to training with the Galaxy at the end of this month, but just because he may be back in an MLS uniform does not mean he will be in plans for later World Cup Qualifiers.
"We spoke at length at the end of January, toward the end of our camp. He expressed his desire to stay away from the game, still, for a little while. If he will become part of our plans again, that depends on how he comes back and how I look at the whole picture and how I look at the development of this team. The door is always open, as I said, but at the end of the day I will make decisions based on what I think is best for this team going forward. As of today, right now, he’s not part of the plans because he is simply not playing or training.”
Klinsmann said he would have further discussions with Donovan, even informally, because they live in the same neighborhood.
Klinsmann was asked if because of the rash of injuries to the players in the National Team pool he would reach out to Donovan to ask him to join the team.
His reply was "no."
