UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. – BigAppleSoccer.com has learned that former Red Bulls center back Tyler Ruthven has signed in Sweden with IK Brage.

A source has told BigAppleSoccer.com that Ruthven went on trial with the club last week and impressed enough to earn a one-year contract.

Brage current is in what is Sweden’s second division, known as the Superettan. Ruthven joins fellow American Bryan Meredith, a standout at Monmouth University, on the squad.

Last season with the Red Bulls, Ruthven impressed in limited minutes, making five appearances for the club but he looked strong in the air and was tactically sound. The 24-year-old defender had previous stints in the lower division of U.S. soccer at Harrisburg in 2010 and with Atlanta in 2011.
