Digao continuing his rehabilitation

HANOVER, N.J. – Following an appearance in a reserve match in early June, Red Bulls central defender Digao seemed to have turned a corner and appeared destined to make a contribution for his club, after playing just one minute last season.

That all came crashing down shortly after that appearance against the Wilmington Hammerheads as Digao suffered a relapse of a prior heel injury and has been sidelined the past several weeks. The brother of Brazilian international Kaka, Digao was absent from the training field again on Tuesday but he might be nearing a return to the pitch.

He has not played with the reserves since that match at Wilmington.

“Digao’s continuing his rehabilitation – it’s a heel injury,” head coach Mike Petke told BigAppleSoccer.com. “Once I get the next update, we’ll see how it goes - if he’s ready for tomorrow. If not, he’ll have another day in rehabilitation.”

Digao has not played a single minute for the Red Bulls this season.
