KANSAS CITY, Kansas -- Defender Kosuke Kimura, who suffered a concussion in the Red Bulls' 3-2 win over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night, has been discharged from a Kansas City hospital.

Kimura suffered a concussion and a perforated right ear drum in the Major League Soccer match and was heading back to New Jersey with his teammates on Sunday, the Red Bulls said on twitter.

The Japanese-born defender sustained the injury late in the match after he replaced Lloyd Sam in the 87th minute at Sporting Park. Sam had replaced Eric Alexander in the 60th minute.

"Heís alert and on his way to the hospital," Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke said immediately after the match. "Heís had concussions in the past and itís something that we take seriously so Iíll be heading over there."

The Red Bulls will determine whether Kimura will be available for Saturday's game at the Columbus Crew.
