Red Bulls rookie midfielder Ian Christianson likely will be out for the season following an injury he recently aggravated that will now require surgery, according to a source.
The former Georgetown University midfielder was the 22 ndplayer taken in this past winterís MLS SuperDraft and was the Red Bulls' first selection of the draft.
He has yet to play a game yet for the Red Bulls as he has battled injuries during the season but he earned praise from head coach Mike Petke during pre-season and upon his recent return to the training field for showing well in scrimmages.
Petke confirmed last week that Christianson had been sidelined after undergoing surgery to repair his right fifth metatarsal. The club hopes to have him back in training towards the end of the season.
Christianson had been dealing with the injury most of the year and came back to play in reserve matches but still felt discomfort even in his return, prompting the surgery.
