On Friday, BigAppleSoccer.com reported that Miguel Ibarra would be one of three known trialists to join the team in Florida for the first leg of preseason.
A source told BigAppleSoccer.com that Ibarra, currently with Minnesota United FC, is no longer able to join the Red Bulls for pre-season and that the player will remain with Minnesota for the time being.
The source said that the North American Soccer League club wanted to ensure medical coverage for the player in case of injury and also wanted a transfer fee to make the move to New York permanent.
The Red Bulls balked at the terms, thinking that Ibarra was available on a free transfer.
The 23-year-old Ibarra has played 54 matches for Minnesota since 2012 and is considered one of the best players in the NASL. The Red Bulls still hold his discovery rights the source said.
Europe or Mexico could be a possibility for the player down the road.
Another player who is expected to be on trial with the Red Bulls, Widner St. Cyr, is also a former Red Bulls Academy player. He played with with RBA before entering the University of Maryland. He also has played for the Red Bulls' Under-23 team in the National Premier Soccer League the last few summers.
