Australia's all-time international scoring leader tallied again for the Socceroos in their 1-1 draw with South Africa at ANZ Stadium on Monday night.
Ayanda Patosi had given the African side a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute before Cahill, the team captain for the match, struck barely a minute later.
Cahill, playing forward in a 4-2-3-1 formation, headed home a cross by Tommy Oar before a crowd of 50,459.
In fact, Cahill could have given the hosts the lead a minute later when Oar found the Red Bulls standout on the edge of the penalty area goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa made an excellent stop.
Cahill, who has scored 32 goals in 68 international appearances, was subbed out in the 62nd minute.
Australia will leave for Brazil later this week.
In Group B, the Socceroos will take on Chile June 13, the Netherlands June 18 and Spain June 23.
