HARRISON, N.J. – It was a bridge too far for Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty to see the field this Friday in the league match at the Houston Dynamo, but the injured player is close to a return.

McCarty did individual training on Thursday and while he won't travel, he is nearing fitness. He suffered the injury in late May during a result at Sporting Kansas City and he hasn't played since. Following surgery and now rehab, it is now hoped by the coaching staff that he will be ready for this weekend.

“Dax is feeling better. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't in full week leading up to the Columbus game,” head coach Mike Petke said. “As of right now, he's not available. We're being cautious, we don't want something to linger on him and come back. He should be in full next week.”
