HARRISON, N.J. – Following an incident where he grabbed an opponent's genitals in Wednesday's 1-1 tie with Real Salt Lake, Jamison Olave has been fined an undisclosed amount and suspended for two games by Major League Soccer.
The Red Bulls central defender was not in training on Friday at Red Bull Arena and he will not play this weekend against the New England Revolution.
Olave grabbed the private area of Real Salt Lake's Olmes Garcia, a move that sent the fellow Colombian tumbling to the ground. The reason for the swipe at the Salt Lake forward is unknown.
After a sensational 2013 campaign where he was arguably the top defender in the league, Olave has followed that up this year with a solid season. He has made 18 starts and been the steadiest central defender on the team.
In another development, RSL midfielder Javier Morales and Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill have been fined for violating the league’s policy regarding hands to the face/head of an opponent also in the 77th minute of that match.
