Carson, Calif. -- The New York Red Bulls recorded a 3-2 victory over the University of California-Berkeley in a scrimmage Friday.

Goals by Jozy Altidore and Joe Vide lifted the Red Bulls into a 2-1 halftime advantage. Second-half sub Jerrod Laventure added another goal in the encounter played on a training field adjacent to The Home Depot Center.

The Red Bulls recorded their first victory of their west coast swing as they are 1-0-2 there and 4-1-3 overall this pre-season.

Defender Chris Leitch, the former MetroStar who is on trial with the club, helped set up the first goal -- by the 17-year-old Altidore -- as did supplemental draft choice Randi Patterson.

Midfielder-forward Ansu Toure, a former member of the Minnesota Thunder who is on trial, and defender Eric Denton assisted on Vide's goal.

The Red Bulls starting lineup had mostly backups, draft picks and players on trial.

The first-half lineup:

Danny Cepero, Eric Denton, Hugh MacDonald, Taylor Graham, Chris Leitch, Ansu Toure, Blake Camp, Sal Caccavale, Joe Vide, Jozy Altidore, Randi Patterson.

More details later.
