PDL honors Riders' Palacio

Forward Mike Palacio, who recorded a hat-trick in the Long Island Rough Riders' 3-1 win over the previously unbeaten Newark Ironbound Express, was named to the Premier Development League team of the week.

The 22-year-old Long Beach, L.I. native is in his second stint with the Riders after spending the 2008 season with the Red Bulls.

“Mike had a great game for us on Saturday and the honors he’s receiving this week are well-deserved,” Riders general manager Flavio Ferri said.

The Riders will take to the road over the next week to keep their U.S. Open Cup hopes alive against the Westchester Flames on Saturday night and then a return engagement with the Newark Ironbound Express next Wednesday. They’ll return home on Saturday, May 30 to face the Rhode Island Stingrays.
