TOUGH TIE Bay area rallies to 1-1 draw with Sky Blue
Becky Edwards broke Sky Blue FC’s hearts in the first minute of stoppage time with a goal off a Camille Abily free kick to lift FC Gold Pride to a 1-1 draw in front of 3,412 at Yurcak Field Wednesday night. The result put Philadelphia and Boston into the Women's Professional Soccer playoffs and ended any hope of Sky Blue hosting a post-season game. For the first time this season Sky Blue FC find themselves in a position when even winning the rest of their games may not be enough to earn a return trip to the Women's Professional Soccer playoffs. For 79 minutes Saturday night, it appeared that Sky Blue FC (7-10-4, 25 points) was going to hold on for a massive win and three points behind a 31st minute goal from forward Tasha Kai. Unfortunately, the tide quickly turned on the visiting side at that moment, and host Washington Freedom (7-8-7, 28 points) rallied all the way back on a pair of late goals from striker Abby Wambach to steal a 2-1 result.
