Sky Blue takes Henderson 2nd in WPS draft

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Sky Blue FC selected Notre Dame forward Melissa Henderson as the second overall selecton of the Women's Professional Soccer player draft at the Kansas City Convention Center on Friday afternoon.
A perenntial All-America, Henderson collected her third All-Big East first team nod after leading the conference with 18 goals (fourth in the nation).
Heading into the postseason, she also was sixth in the country in points (43) and goals per match (0.95), and eighth in points per game (2.26). She also was fourth in the Big East with seven assists. In conference play, Henderson tied for first in points (24) and points per match (2.18), while sharing second in goals (10) and goals per match (0.91).
She also tied the school record with three hat-tricks last season (two in conference play), and her four goals against DePaul on Oct. 21 tied a Big East record for goals in a regular-season conference match, a mark set more than 13 years ago. She was the Soccersavings.com/Chicagoland Soccer News college player of the week twice this season and the Soccersavings.com/Soccer News Net college player of the week for the week of Oct. 23.
