HE'S THE JUAN
Agudelo: 'It's amazing to be back with the national team'
After a rather forgettable season with the Red Bulls and Chivas USA, former New York striker Juan Agudelo was called into the U.S. National Team for Wednesday's international friendly against Russia in Kransnodar, Russia (ESPN2, 10 a.m. ET).
Agudelo was named to the U.S.'s 20-man roster by coach Juergen Klinsmann.
“It’s amazing to be back with the national team,” Agudelo said in a statement. “I’m feeling great, feeling in form, finally. I’ve worked very hard for this during rehab and to finally be back with the guys is amazing.”
Agudelo, who turns 20 on Nov. 23, endured a nightmare season for the Red Bulls and Chivas, recording only three goals and three assists over 1,570 minutes in 24 matches and 17 starts.
He started the year with an ankle injury before suffering a knee injury during the CONCACAF men's Olympic qualifying tournament. Agudelo was traded to Chivas for defender Heath Pearce, allocation money and future considerations on May 17.
