The Massapequa Crush won an Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association State Open Cup title for the second consecutive year as the team defeated the New York SC, 2-0, to capture the Girls Under-14 crown in extratime at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y. on June 2.

Scoring in extratime were Kristen Bischoff, who also tallied in the final last year, and Hailey Cesala.

“This State Cup was harder. We were inconsistent in the first half, which was probably because of nerves,” Massapequa coach Paul Yarde said. “But we eventually settled down and scored in overtime.”

The Crush defeated the Dix Hills Panthers, 4-1, in last year’s final.

Massapequa also won the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award in this year’s championship game and will perform in the Region I tournament in Lancaster, Pa. from June 28 to July 3.
