Manhattan outlasts Smithtown in PKs, 11-10
It one of the closest rivalies in Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association, Manhattan Paris Saint-Germain and Smithtown Arsenal played each other for, two Boys Under-15 chamionship at Stringham Park in La Grange, N.Y. on June 2.
Manahttan, which plays in the Westchester Youth Soccer League, outlasted the Long Island Junior Soccer League side, 11-10, in 12 rounds of penalty kicks after playing to a 2-2 draw in regulation and extratime.
“I told the players before penalty kicks that we have been practicing them for the past two years and all that practice paid off," Manhattan coach Wilson Egidio said.
Amara Sesay scored both goals for Manhattan in regulation.
In Region 1 Premier League play on March 31 on Long Island, these two teams played to a scoreless tie.
Last year Smithtown won the State Cup and Region 1 final when it defeated Manhattan two out of three times. Manhattan’s win, in Region 1 Premier League play, decided that championship as the team finished in first and Smithtown came in second.
Manhattan will play in the Region I tournament in Lancaster, Pa. from June 28 to July 3.
