ENY BOYS U-16 FINAL
Downtown United beats Manhattan in PKs

In a battle for bragging rights for the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association as well as Manhattan, Downtown United advanced in a penalty kick shootout over Manhattan Paris Saint-Germain in the Boys Under-16 State Open Cup final at Stringham Park in La Grange, N.Y. on June 3.

The teams were tied 1-1 after regulation and 2-2 in extratime. Scoring Downtown’s goals were Harris Kolenovic and Daniel Sullivan while Ibrahim Lakanobo and Gus Staltenstal scored for Manhattan (Westchester Youth Soccer League). Downtown (Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League) United prevailed 4-3 in the shootout.

“Someone has to win in penalty kicks,” Downtown United coach Alex Cuba said. “It was a great battle back and forth during the game!”

“When it comes down to penalty kicks, it’s that close between the two teams and anybody can win,” Manhattan coach Ray Selvadurai said.

Downtown United will participate in the Region I tournament in Lancaster, Pa. from June 28 to July 3.
