ENY BOYS U-17 FINAL
Manhattan Ajax 5, Northport/CH Sound 2

For the third time in three years, Manhattan Ajax captured the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association championship, defeating the Northport/Cow Harbor Sound for the Boys Under-17 crown at Stringham Park in La Grange, N.Y. on June 3.

Ajax, which earned titles in 2009 and 2010, upended last year's U-16 State Cup champions in extratime, 5-2.

Forward Owen Elliot, Manhattan’s leading scorer, scored two goals while Andrew Silberstein added two and Weller Hlinomaz also scored for the Westchester Youth Soccer League team.

Northport/Cow Harbor, which performs in the Long Island Junior Soccer League faced an uphill battle after it had a player sent off toward the end of regulation and another red carded in extratime.

“It was a tough game,” Manhattan Ajax coach John Lathan said. “We were up two goals and then conceded two goals but we stuck together and were able to win. All our players were great and Andrew Silberstein always works so hard in midfield.”

Manhattan advanced to the Region I tournament in Lancaster, Pa. from June 28 to July 3.
