Massapequa Force 3, Staten Island United 1

The Massapequa Force defeated the Staten Island United Thunderbolts, 3-1 to capture the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association the Girls Under-18 State Open Cup final in Stringham Park in La Grange, N.Y. on June 3.

Scoring Massapequa’s goals were Katie Corkan, Brianna Marino and Taylor Venturino.

“We won the game because the girls never gave up," Force coach Frank Marino said. "Staten Island scored first but it was our will to win that made the difference. It takes so much effort to get to the final at Under-18. Some of our girls gave up graduations to come here and they did not want to go home to Long Island without a victory.”

Massapequa advanced to the Region I tournament in Lancaster, Pa. from June 28 to July 3.
