D'ARPINO SCHOLARSHIP
Garden City's Bingham earns ENYYSA honor

Sean Bingham of Garden City, N.Y. has received the Livio D’Arpino Scholarship from Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association.

The scholarship is named after D'Arpino, the ENYYSA vice president who was involved in every level of local soccer before his death in 2002. Bingham received a $1,000 scholarship.

Bingham also received the Vincent Gubin Memorial Scholarship from the Long Island Junior Soccer League.

He graduated in the top five percent of his class at Garden City High School and played soccer. The National Honor Society member will study and play soccer at MIT this fall.

Bingham played for Commack United (LIJSL), the 2010 Region I champions and performed playing with ENYYSA's ODP from 2003-2010.

He has volunteered for the past seven years with the LIJSL’s TOPSoccer Special Children’s Program.

“Even as a ninth grader, it was soon obvious that Sean was head and shoulders above most of his classmates," Garden City H.S. guidance counselor Patrick Doyle wrote in a nominating letter. "In his senior year, I have come to admire Sean even more. Sean is truly the consummate gentleman as he is polite and respectful to all. His humility is refreshing, his scholastic and athletic ability noteworthy, and his impeccable character unquestionable!”
