NSCAA High School Players of the Week
Rachel Terry and Jason Mayorga have been named NSCAA High School Players of the Week.

Terry, a senior midfielder from Vestal Senior High School (Vestal, N.Y.) leads her team in scoring with ten goals in the first nine games. The Golden Bears, coached by Bill Stepanovsky, are 9-0 so far this season and have only allowed one goal.

Terry is a co-captain and a three-year varsity player.

Mayorga had a standout week, leading the James Hubert Blake High (Silver Spring, Md.) boys' team to two shutouts. He played a role in the team's wins against Sherwood High and Gaithersburg High, even assisting on a goal by teammate and former High School Player of the Week winner Tanner Giles-Tucker.

Mayorga's skills have been noticed internationally, and he has been called up for the El Salvador youth national program. Mayorga and the Bengals are coached by David Edlow.

U.S. Youth Soccer Development Academy Roundup
The Portland Timbers Academy teams played their first home matches of the 2012-13 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season over the weekend, each coming away with a win and a draw.

The Timbers U-18 Academy (1-2-2, 5pts) played Real So Cal to a 1-1 draw on Saturday in their first home match. After going down a goal in the 25th minute, midfielder Foster Langsdorf scored his first goal of the season to level the score in the 38th minute. Langsdorf beat two defenders and the goalkeeper before firing the ball into the back of the net.

On Sunday, the Timbers U-18s claimed their first win of the season, defeating Arsenal FC 1-0. Portland scored the decisive goal on a penalty kick in the 71st minute after Langsdorf was brought down inside the penalty area. Forward Christian Desir converted the penalty kick for his second goal of the season. The Timbers U-18s are unbeaten in their last three matches.

The Timbers U-16 Academy (2-0-3, 9pts) remain unbeaten to start the season, recording a 3-2 win over Real So Cal and a 1-1 draw against Arsenal FC over the weekend. With the results, the Timbers U-16s are unbeaten through the first five games of the season and have won two of their last three.

On Saturday, three different Timbers U-16 players netted their first goals of the season in a 3-2 victory over Real So Calís U-16 side. The Timbers U-16s jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by midfielder Brandon Faro and forward Rolando Velazquez in the 27th and 33rd minutes, respectively. Real So Cal cut the deficit with a goal just before halftime. The two sides traded goals in the 80th minute, with forward Alejandro Segovia finding the insurance goal for the Timbers U-16s.

On Sunday, the Timbers U-16s matched up with Arsenal FC for the first time. Segovia scored his second goal of the weekend, heading home the equalizer in the second half, to help Portland earn a 1-1 draw.

Sounders FC Academy went unbeaten in Southern California this past weekend, picking up three wins and a draw against Western Conference foes Arsenal FC and Real SoCal. The U18's drew with Arsenal on Saturday before defeating Real SoCal, 3-1, on Sunday behind two goals from Sam Langston. Denis Kalamar netted three goals over the weekend-giving him five on the season-as the U16's came away with a weekend sweep.

San Diego Surfís U-15/16 team began the 2012-13 season with a pair of shutout victories, and Bryce Flores scored four of his teamís eight goals over the weekend. Three came during a 6-0 win against Cal Odyssey last Saturday, and he added a goal as San Diego topped the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 on Sunday.

The De Anza Force U-15/16 team became one of two teams in the Academy to improve to 5-0-0 this season (the other being D.C. Unitedís U-15/16s) with 2-1 victories against Strikers FC and Pateadores. Pateadores had a late 1-0 lead on Christopher Costantiniís goal, but Marco Neves came through in the clutch for De Anza Force with goals in the 77th and 80th minutes to capture the win in the gameís waning moments.

Local rivals Sockers FC and Chicago Fire Academy played to 1-1 draws at both age levels last Saturday in their local derbies. The Fire U-18s' Jeffrey Farina found the first goal of the match and put the Fire up 1-0 in the 30th minute. The Fire were able to hold off the Sockers until the 94th minute, when Simon Megally found the late equalizer for the home side, ending the match 1-1.

Farinaís goal in the 30th minute of Saturdayís match was his eighth goal of the season. Farina has scored in all of the U-18s matches this year, tallying more than half of the teamís 14 total goals.

In the second match of the day, Luca Giovine put the Fire U-16s up 1-0 in the 33rd minute but the Sockers were again able to equalize behind John Freitagís goal in the 66th minute as the match ended 1-1.

The Chicago Fire and Sockers FC U-17/18 teams are both 3-0-1 in the Mid-America Division.

In a match between MLS-affiliated Academy teams, visiting FC Dallas posted victories at both age groups against the Houston Dynamo last Saturday. Bobby Edetís two goals led the FC Dallas U-17/18 team to a 3-0 victory. For the U-15/16 matchup, FC Dallasí Aaron Meyer and Santiago Agudelo each had two goals for a 4-2 win. Dynamo midfielder Christian Lucatero had both goals for Houston.

Orlando Cityís U-15/16 team defeated Charlotte Soccer Academy 6-4 on Sunday to move to 2-0-0 in its first season with the Academy. Dennis Zapata and Gorka Aperribay had two goals apiece for Orlando City, and Aperribayís 72nd-minute goal proved to be the winner.

The New York Red Bulls swept Albertson SC last Saturday as both age groups stayed unbeaten this season. The Red Bulls U-15/16 teamís Matt McCarthy opened up the scoring on a nice feed from Derrick Etienne before Etienne added two goals of his own to give the Red Bulls a 3-2 lead heading into the half. When the teams came back out onto the pitch, it was Harrison Steadman who helped pad the lead with two tallies, one off a free kick and the other courtesy of another solid pass from Etienne. Alex Tejera rounded out the scoring when he sent an Anthony Viteri pass into the netting.

The Red Bulls U-18 squad played in a bit of a nailbiter against Albertson but managed to walk away with a 1-0 win thanks to a 48th-minute goal from Izzy Tandir, his third of the year.

Other Red Bull youth teams have big weekend
New York Red Bulls Academy teams combined for a perfect record over the weekend.

Three straight victories by the U-13 Academy kicked things off for New York, as the group posted a 2-0 win over the Cosmos, defeated Albertson 6-0 and closed the weekend out with a 3-0 victory over PDA.

The U-14 Red Bulls registered back-to-back victories over the Baltimore Bays and Seacoast United. Not only did the Red Bulls remain unbeaten, but they handed the Bays their first loss of the season, 2-1. The U-14s cruised to a big victory over Seacoast United in the second meeting of the weekend after scoring five first-half goals and shutting out the opposition.

In U-15 action, the team rolled out two wins as they opened up a three-day tournament with a convincing 5-0 win over Potomac. Five different players cracked the score sheet in the win, but it was all Jerel Blades on the second day of the tourney, as his play helped power the Red Bulls past Seacoast 2-1 in the dying moments of the match.
